The Social Milk Supply Program was implemented in 1944 with the inauguration of the first public milk-producing facility Nacional Distribuidora y Reguladora, S.A. de C.V. (Nadyrsa). In 1961 the government established Compañía Rehidratadora de Leche CEIMSA, S.A.; then in 1963, this entity changed its name to Compañía Rehidratadora de Leche Conasupo, S.A. Leche Industrializada Conasupo, S.A. de C.V. Afterwards, in 1972, the name of the company was modified again to
Finally, in 1994, the program was revised and was no longer part of the Trade and Industrial Promotion Ministry, and became part of the Social Development Ministry. This reorganization determined its disincorporation as an affiliate of the Conasupo System, giving place to its new and current name Liconsa, S.A. de C.V.
Nowadays, Liconsa is majorly a state-owned entity, who is strongly committed to improve the nutritional quality of millions of Mexicans, contributing to their incorporation to country's development by supporting disadvantaged families and providing them high-quality milk at an affordable subsidized price, especially children under 12 years of age.

Our operating rules allow us to maintain significant coverage and benefits. The benefits of Liconsa's fortified milk are offered to girls and boys from 6 months to 12 years, and to 15 year-old girls; women between 45 and 59 years of age, as well as pregnant and lactating mothers.
This measure has a favorable impact on the nutrition of these groups of the population, since the nutrients used to fortify the milk are essential for children and women, teenagers and elderly citizens, according to the studies performed by the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Doctor Salvador Subirán (National Medical Sciences and Nutrition Institute Doctor Salvador Subirán).
Liconsa maintains its supply to patients with chronic diseases and physically impaired population over 12 years of age and adults over 60.
A study performed by the Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública (National Institute of Public Health) and published in October 18, 2004 by Dr. Juan Rivera Dommarco, Director of the Nutrition and Health Research Center of aforementioned institute, stated that the formula of this product, developed by specialists of Liconsa and national and international scientists, was appropriate to fight children malnutrition.
These results show that approximately 370 thousand children, who took Liconsa's fortified milk for 6 months, recorded a significant reduction of anemia-related problems. Likewise, last year, approximately 51 thousand children between 12 and 30 months of age, who consumed this milk, eliminated anemia-related health problems.
According to the results of this study, anemia rates decreased 44 percent among children between 12 and 24 months of age, who consumed the fortified milk for a 6 months period and were under controlled supervision.
Likewise, their iron reserve increased after 6 months of consuming our product. Under normal operating conditions, anemia decreased 25 percent compared to non-fortified milk in children between 12 and 30 months of age who consumed the product for 6 months.
This product is a light of hope in the fight against children malnutrition, since fortified milk is consumed everyday by more than 4 million girls and boys around the country thanks to Liconsa, and they are receiving the immediate nutritional benefits of this product.
The results of a second study on the children benefited and not benefited by Liconsa's Social Supply Program (performed between 2005 and 2006 by the Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública) were published in May 9, 2006. Some of the most relevant results of this study are:
The consumption of Liconsa's fortified milk for one or two years helped reduce anemia rates up to three times in more than one and a half million children between one and four years of age, compared to children who have never consumed this milk.
Therefore, we are able to confirm that children benefited by Liconsa's Social Milk Supply Program, are in better physical and mental shape, having less probabilities of getting sick.
